Everything Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist Said About Their 3-Month Marriage Before Divorce (2024)

Three months after tying the knot on live television, Golden Bachelor couple Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist confirmed they would be looking to “dissolve” their marriage following disagreements about where to live.

Turner, 72, previously told PEOPLE he’d be moving to Charleston with Nist, 70 — but their divorce announcement on Good Morning America on April 12, 2024 proved that decision didn’t hold.

“We looked at home after home, but we never got to the point where we made that decision," Nist said on the morning show.

As the couple takes the next step in ending their marriage, PEOPLE is looking back on the love they shared post-marriage — and everything they said about newlywed life.

Steamy Moments

There was no lack of passion between Turner and Nist following their 2024 wedding. In an Instagram post from February, Turner shared a joke he cracked with some sales associates when they asked how he and Nist “made out” in the dressing room.

“The last trip in we may have spent a little too much time in the dressing room,” he said on Instagram. “Upon exit the sales associate asked ‘How did you make out in there?’ When I replied ‘Were you watching?’”

Turner reported the joke was met with enthusiasm by the store employees.

Love Languages

In a joint appearance on the Dear Shandy podcast just two weeks before they announced their divorce, Nist explained her two love languages — physical touch and words of affirmation. When the hosts asked Nist if Turner delivers on the two types of love, Turner jumped in to say “shut up” with laughter. Nist, though, responded “yes.”

He showed off both at once, caressing Nist’s head and saying, “Honey, you look so pretty,” before directing his attention back to the podcast to confirm “yes, I do.”

Honeymoon Plans

Turner and Nist called off their marriage before they made it to their Italian honeymoon, which was planned for May 2024. Nist shared her dreams about the trip on Instagram at the end of January 2024. “Having so much fun planning and dreaming about our honeymoon in May to Italy…flying into Rome, spending a few days in Tuscany and then heading down to Sorrento and the Amalfi coast,” she wrote. “I’ve been to Italy twice, once when I was 18, and again to visit my daughter when she studied abroad there. I can’t wait to experience it with Gerry!”

Recreated Dates

Just two weeks after getting married on television, Nist took Turner to a diner for lunch. It was a special moment for the couple, who had their first Golden Bachelor date at a similar diner. This time, dining in New Jersey, Nist reflected on their first date.

“A diner date is part of our story… so, I had to bring Gerry to a New Jersey diner. (we are kinda famous for them here!),” she captioned an Instagram post. “Eggs, bacon and pancakes (for him), a spinach, feta cheese omelet and a fruit cup for me..so much fun meeting new and old friends!”

In his own post, Turner looked forward to a future together. “Out of 530 diners in New Jersey, Theresa took me to one of the best,” Turner wrote on Instagram. “With only 529 more to go, I'll be busy thru June of 2025.”

Heartfelt Vows

Nist and Turner’s marriage started with major love between the two. Captured on television, the Golden Bachelor couple exchanged vows of promise and joy.

“I promise to choose you, every day, as the one I love, and never take your heart for granted,"Turner said to his bride. "I promise to shout the 'I love yous' by day, and whisper them softly at night. I promise to keep you safe. And I promise to make you feel comforted in difficult times and abundantly joyful in great times.”

Nist returned the sweet sentiments in her own vows. "I love you," said Nist. "I love your heart and your soul. I love your smiles and your laughter. We have so much fun together we laugh until we cry. ... I promise to be calm in the storm, to comfort you when you're sad, to laugh with you when you're happy, and to stick with you throughout it all, but most of all, to have fun. For the rest of the days that we have left on this earth, which could be another hour."

The Split

Though Nist and Turner have decided to end their marriage, they admitted it’s not because they fell out of love. The exes told Good Morning America they’ll remain “best friends.” “I still love this person. There’s no doubt in my mind, I still am in love with her. I root for her every day,” Turner said.

Nist confirmed she feels the same adding, “I still love him.”
